PORTALS

A YEAR OF INVISIBLE PRACTICE

The seasons are happening. The breath is happening. You are happening too.

Portals is a year-round practice moving through five seasons, eight thresholds, and the turning year — organized around the calendar we actually live inside, because we are always playing between two seasons, an octave always borrowing a note from the one above and the one below

WHAT IS PORTALS?

Portals is a monthly membership — Dages's practice made available to others, practice in public, a living archive of breath, seasonal intelligence, subtle body cartographies, sensory expansion, poetry, and vitality. Members aren't students completing a course. They are inside a practice while it's happening, in real time, season by season. Drop in for a month, a season, a solar cycle.

It moves through five seasons — The Mystery, Green Awakening, Radiance, Ripening, Distillation — in dialogue with the Western agrarian solar calendar. These are not metaphors for mood. They are a framework for paying close attention to what is actually happening in your body and in the world at the same time, and finding that those two things are not as separate as we have been taught.

These practices are an invitation back into innate, intimate relationship with your own materiality — techniques of decivilization, of unhooking attachment to narratives, of greeting the ghosts of our intergenerational errands, allowing the balm of the strange to soothe our moment's sense of estrangement. The body as a site of radical openness, a ground of revelation and experience rather than merely a locus of identity. We have always been embodied ecologies; we just forget, and these are practices of remembering.

They are not solutions to the complexities of living. They are techniques of friendship — controls to be chosen for durations and held lightly, practices that trust the life and desire that is already shaping you, habits that cultivate options, and options make you powerful. The totality of devotion here is not to the outcome but to the reality of being, and in order to meet who is really here in the totality of experience, we learn to want something much truer, stranger, older, and vaster than the narrowness we find ourselves disciplined into.

Every month, a braid of ways in — delivered across two weeks, so nothing arrives all at once:

THE FORM

GATHERING

A live session once a month: practice, teaching, open conversation. Always recorded and archived for you to revisit on your own time.

A recorded breath or embodiment practice, 20–35 minutes, tuned to the intelligence of the current season. Sometimes movement or breath, sometimes a lecture, essay, or voice memo. Always alive to what is actually happening.

PRACTICING / THINKING

A single PDF: a ritual, a writing prompt, a diagram, a sensory or herbal guide. Something to print out and return to.

ALCHEMIZING

Between deliveries, the community thread stays open — collectively we become the magical ingredient, and we simmer together in the well-seasoned broth. You can ask questions, share what you're noticing, respond to the teaching. Dages reads and responds.

You can join any month. You don't need to wait for a particular season to begin — you enter where the year is, and you'll move through the full cycle in your own time. The archive is available from your first day. But the living edge of the program is always now — the current season, the current question, the next gathering.

Membership is $24/month, or $240/year. Join at any time, cancel at any time.

FOUNDING MEMBER OFFER

Join on the annual plan by May 31 for a discounted annual rate of $180/year.

ABOUT DAGES

Dages Juvelier Keates has been teaching breath, movement, and embodied practice for over twenty years across eighteen countries. She is a senior Katonah Yoga educator, breathwork teacher, author of Breath Magic: Portals to Presence and Radical Acts of Embodiment, and a current candidate at Pulsion: The International Institute of Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Psychosomatics. She serves as dramaturg for choreographer Faye Driscoll.

Portals is her ongoing school — the place where she thinks out loud and stays in conversation with the practitioners who are doing this work seriously. Life is a happening thing, and it is happening inside of you and everywhere around you, and this is just a way of knowing that, again and again, season by season.
