RADICAL ACTS OF EMBODIMENT
A 30 hour KATONAH YOGA® Training Module
Sunday, February 18, 2018 – Saturday, February 24, 2018
The political is personal. The personal is practical.
Our bodies are not abstract, they are not delusional, they are the home of reality. All of our lives happen right here, there is nowhere else to live from. Our bodies and minds have never been split, although we have felt them to be. We are not institutions, we are not museums, we are not abstractions, we are not sites of occupation or projects of improvement. Our mind/bodies are symphonies of polyglot, polyrhythmic conversations.
Learn how to use the Katonah Yoga practice to potentiate and empower yourself.
In this intensive, led by Dages Juvelier Keates and assisted by Jessica Chin, practitioners will gain a better understanding of the integrity of the practice in summation. From the metaphors to the adjustments, the philosophy to the physics, the material adds up. Perfect for practitioners and teachers acquiring hours to teach Katonah Yoga as well as those seeking a deeper, higher experience of embodiment.
Ubud is in the heart of Bali, Indonesia, verdant with lush terraces and exploding with life. There are ample opportunities to learn from the ancient culture here, to be differently with time, with ritual, with color. Ubud is embraced by the island’s most beautiful rice fields and ancient monuments, a place where the culture extends its rich history to visitors. Ubud gets its name from the Balinese word “ubad,” meaning medicine; it is a deeply spiritual and unique place, full of music and magic!
Our retreat villa is a 10-minute drive from Ubud Center. The villa is surrounded by famed rice paddy fields on one side and a rainforest on the other. The villa’s sprawling gardens, with its Balinese pavilions and lanterns situated throughout, merge seamlessly with the living spaces and to give you a feel of being in a tree house. The lush gardens have beautiful flowers, edible plants, and organic vegetables and herbs. The villa sources predominantly organic and locally grown produce for food that is sustainable, pure, simple, and real. The villa believes in the axiom “your food is your medicine” and strives for delicious, healthy, and healing foods beneficial to the body. To begin your day, a healthy breakfast selection of fresh fruit and cold-pressed vegetable and fruit juices, whole-grain bread, eggs, cheese, muesli, and yogurt. Delicious dinners offer fresh salads, creamy soups, hearty sandwiches, and local Indonesian favorites. (NOTE: The villa serves vegetarian only: no meat or seafood. Lunch is on your own so that you may have more time to see local sights and experience local cuisine.) The villa’s luxurious spa offers massages, holistic and Ayurvedic treatments, and manicures and pedicures—pamper yourself and be transported into a more blissful state.
This intensive will deepen your understanding of Katonah Yoga’s central metaphors and practices. Your body is your house, your personal abode; you want to know how to have a party and clean it up! Every day will feature asana, pranayama, meditation, and other therapeutic practices. Sessions will include lecture, demonstration, and plenty of hands-on, attuned adjustments. You will learn to systematically organize yourself in order to amplify your energy, flush your glands, and rewire your neurology. Learn tricks and techniques uniquely syncretized to facilitate a deep sense of presence and vibrancy.
If you have had a taste of Katonah’s singular material and want a broader understanding of theory and practice, this experience is for you!
This 30-hour TT intensive can be counted towards a 200hr KATONAH YOGA® Teacher certification.
KATONAH YOGA® was founded by Nevine Michaan, and is a Hatha yoga practice refined over forty years, blended with Taoist theory, sacred geometries, pranayama, and meditation. For more information, visit www.katonahyoga.com.
Come join me on February 18 - February 24, 2018 (7 days | 6 nights). Plan on arriving 2pm on Sunday, February 18 (our first group session is yoga at 5pm) and leaving after brunch on Saturday, February 24. (We will help coordinate transportation from the airport upon arrival and departure to the airport.) Each day is balanced between group activities and luxury time for yourself. There are tons of optional activities, and you can dive into as much or as little as you want!
Below is a sample schedule, giving you a sense of your week in Bali (it may vary once we actually get started), so by the week’s end, you can come home relaxed, more centered, and more renewed in spirit and mind!
8am - 9:30am
Asana is origami for bodies. The first part of this vigorous practice will break down the angles and measures of Katonah classics: dogs, hangs, squares, lunges, squats, and pigeons. From there, we will dive into an ocean of fluency, knitting asana together with poetic sequencing. Afterwards, we will plumb the depths and whip up the heights with an ecstatic and pragmatic pranayama extravaganza!
9:30am - 10:30am
Enjoy a healthy and nutritious breakfast, or take some personal time to reflect.
10:30am - 12pm
Your Body is a Magical Abode: The Metaphors of Katonah Yoga
Recipes for Joy: The Alchemy of Pranayama
The Magic Square: Maps and Wraps for Rapture
Tuning the Instrument: Adjusting, Handling, Manipulating
Teaching the Therapeutic Private
Becoming Spherical: Yoga for Longevity
Self-Care and Discovery
Receive treatments, relax by the pool, enjoy the villa, or see the sights of Ubud. (Lunch is at your own expense.) We will plan some optional excursions together, such as herb walk or temple visit.
6pm - 7:30pm
The evening practice will focus on individual questions and concerns. We will take time to set up conditions for body reading, adjustments, and attunements of each individual. A private yoga session is different from a group practice. In a private, you tune your instrument, in a class, you play for the symphony!
7:30pm - 9pm
Enjoy fresh, delicious Balinese cuisine
